HOLIDAY MESSAGE FROM PROTECT AND DEFEND PRESIDENT MIKE HONIKER
As we look back on 2011, we have many things to be thankful for. We’ve finally seen the end of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell as well as an Iraq war. Our military brothers and sisters now have the ability to serve their country openly about who they are. We hear stories of more and more public safety men and women having the ability to be accepted for who they are as well. We have been able to celebrate a record number of members again this year. What makes our group strong is the dedicated men and women who support each other through the good times and the bad. I’m constantly touched by the outpouring of support from our group members when one of us experiences a loss or goes through a rough patch in life. After all, that’s what we are here for. To share our good times and to know you don’t have to go through the tough times alone. It becomes much easier knowing you don’t have to go it alone.
Talking with our Regional Directors and your board I’m excited what 2012 is going to bring. We have so many members working hard to make the upcoming events even better than this year’s. Our Technology Committee has done a great job on improving the services you have available to you 24/7 on the website. Our next event, “Stars and Stripes in the Big Easy” has already hit an all new record for pre-registration and I promise you the folks in the Southern Region will be ready to show everyone a great time. We are continuing to work on our new venture with HIV/AIDS support to provide members with the best support and education that we can offer. Last year I challenged our membership to attend at least one event and you answered by showing record numbers at all of our events. This year I challenge you to find members out there who are new to our group and encourage them to become more involved.
I hope each and every one of you enjoys those things that make the holidays a special time of year. I’m thankful for each and every one of you and the dedication that you have for your fellow man. On behalf of your Board of Directors and the Staff at Project and Defend, we wish you a happy holidays and a great New Year. May all your wishes come true in 2012.
